21 September 2012
The Malta International Airshow will this year host a newcomer to the Malta airshow scene. A Qatar Emiri Air Force C-130J will participate in the static display and this also marks the first-ever visit by a Qatari Hercules to Malta.
The C-130J is the newest version of the famous C-130 Family and the C-130 J is nicknamed the Super Hercules.
The Hercules is a four-engined turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built by Lockheed Martin. Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport aircraft and different versions of this very successful aircraft now perform various roles. The Hercules, in its various versions has been in production since the 1950’s and has the record of the longest continuous production run of any military aircraft in history.
The Malta Aviation Society is grateful for the Qatar Emiri AIr Force participation in this year's edition of the Malta International Airshow and the assistance provided by the Defense Directorate at the office of the Prime Minister.
