NATO E-3 returns
23 July 2013

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has accepted the invitation made by the MaltaAviation Society (MAS) to participate with a boeing E-3A airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft on static display for the Malta InternationalAirshow 2013. After last year's succesful participation with the E-3 having crowds to visit the aircraft all day long the Malta Aviation Society is really grateful with NATO's acceptance to participate.

The Boeing E-3 Sentry is an airborne early warning and control aircraft (AWACS) developed by Boeing as the prime contractor. Derived from the Boeing 707, it provides all-weather surveillance, command, control and communications, and is used by the United States AirForce (USAF), NATO, Royal Air Force(RAF), French Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force. The E-3 is distinguished by the distinctive rotating radar dome above the fuselage.

NATO has 17 E-3's Based in Geilenkirchen, Germany. All of these aircraft are officially registered in Luxembourg, a NATO member with no airforce of its own. The AWACS’s mainrole is to monitor and control NATO aircraft in peace and during operations all over the globe.
