First ever Swiss AF F/A-18 display for airshow
24 January 2014
The Malta International Airshow is proud that the F/A-18 Hornet Solo Display from the Swiss Air Force will be embracing Malta's skies in September.
After the successful participation of the Swiss AF PC-7 Team in 2006 and 2011, the Swiss AF has confirmed that this year they shall participate in the Malta International Airshow with the F/A-18 Hornet Solo Display. This is a first for Malta in having an F/A-18 in flying display and also having a fighter aircraft from the Swiss AF.
This year the Swiss AF is celebrating a number of anniversaries which are 100 years of the Air Force, 50 years of the Patrouille Suisse and 25 years of the Swiss AF PC-7 Team.
The F/A-18 Hornet Solo Display uses the Hornet for their attractive single presentations. The complete type designation of this aircraft is Boeing F/A-18C Hornet for the single seater version. With a total length of 17 meters, its two engines provide for a thrust of 16 tons. The hornet entered service with the Swiss AF in 1997 and there are three squadrons which are part of the Surveillance Wing. The Swiss AF has a total of 32 FA-18s.
The Malta Aviation Society is delighted that the Swiss AF has accepted the invitation to participate in the Malta International Airshow, and is looking forward for a stunning display by the Swiss AF F/A-18 Hornet Solo Display.
